“A different language is a different vision of life.”
— Federico Fellini
As an educator, it is important to introduce bilingual education in early childhood and it definitely has long-term benefits for children’s language and literacy skills in both languages, more specifically Czech and English. In a sense, a child can have a greater opportunity to gradually learn to adapt to two-way immersion. It will open the doors for them to have a better understanding of different languages, which would help them to build their self-confidence in terms of social and communication skills.
Like me as a mother, I am certain that every mother’s wish is to provide what is necessary and best for her child’s language skills to get better and better, however, It is crucial to acknowledge that every child is unique. Some may possess innate abilities, while others may be more hesitant. As a parent, it is our responsibility to foster their intellectual growth.
Sending your child to a bilingual school is a very practical and wise decision that will pay off in the long run. Knowing that English is a widely used language nowadays, they will be able to use it wherever they want to go. I admire those parents who undoubtedly send their children to a bilingual school, it is a clear manifestation that you are opening doors to their good future. I strongly believe that you should encourage your child to learn English as a second language. Don’t let fear hold them back from a bright future. Give it a try and you will be amazed at the positive outcome.
